Time share project in Chobhar Ancient Village, next to Chobhar Buddhist Monastery. Ideal for meditation.

ABOUT US

Chobhar “Le Village” Resort, located in Chobhar Village, Kirtipur Municipality, was created as a Private Limited company under the laws of the Kingdom of Nepal in 2001. The company’s Managing Director and sole owner is Theo Steinert, a dual citizen of France and the United States.

Born in Switzerland, raised in France and educated at Dartmouth (USA) from which University he graduated in 1956, Theo started his career in Banking with the prestigious house of JP Morgan and worked in the bank’s Wall Street and Paris offices as Assistant Treasurer. In later years, he branched out into Investment banking and successively headed up, as VP International, in Paris, two leading NY financial and securities houses. After moving to London as VP of a major international leasing company, where he spent ten years, he became an Independent Financial Consultant in Europe specializing in the fields of corporate investments, property development and purchase and sale of real estate.

Theo, a westerner retired from international banking, heads this timeshare project from Kathmandu offices

When Theo first came to Nepal from France after his retirement from international finance in 1998, he came across this quite unique piece of property in Chobhar which at that time was completely abandoned and in bad need of repairs. Had the property been left in its critical state for too much longer, Theo reasoned, nothing would be left of these old buildings.

Today, these same buildings which are in fact wonderful examples of Newari architecture are well on the way to being completely renovated. Chobhar Café-restaurant, housed in one of these old stone buildings, was opened in September 2004. This year saw the renovation of the upper floors of the main building, with the creation of old world charm accommodations. Theo has personally supervised all the renovation works and ensured that all the old features and style of the building were respected and preserved for posterity. Out of doors, terrasses were created and a Sculpture Garden, the first of its kind in Nepal to display the works of futuristic nepali art was started.

It is intended that the Sculpture garden will continue to develop. Ultimately, we hope to be able to display as many as 25 modern and futuristic sculptures made of steel, stone, marble and other resistant materials, out in the open air. The major theme of this sculpture garden is “The past is over” - An invitation of sorts to close one Chapter and to OPEN another….to move from “déjà vu” to “avant garde”

The next step will be to renovate two other old stone buildings before launching the TIME SHARE project, next door to Chobhar Buddhist Monastery.

It is no accident that our project is located exactly between the 15th Century Adinath Lokeshwor Temple and this new Monastery. It is no coincidence that this Time Share is in the Land of Spirituality.

Our Time Share project is an OPEN INVITATION….to YOU and others, perhaps from different foreign lands, to join us to make it a success.

Theo
